During the spring and summer of 2022, Jonathan Braga gave a weekly workshop in which the basics of hip hop were shared. Not only were the beats, raps and movements practiced, also the social-political origins of hip hop resonated resonated with this group with various backgrounds. The genre originated in New York City in the 1970s as a cultural exchange among Black, Latino, and Caribbean youth and has grown into one of the most consumed genres of music. It’s an act of sampling, of dialogue, it’s a subculture and an active way of living.

The youth group gave a performance for their parents, extended families, neighbours and visitors of the festival. It was part of the opening weekend of Loop - down the hills across the hills. The hip hop group Balatom Crew, of which Jonathan is founding member, came over from France and turned up the volume, and so did their bodies. Wow! It triggered many in the audience to join the following short workshop to find collectively new rhythms.
